The entry-level Tazz 130, CitiGolf Chico 1,4, Fiesta Flite 1,3i and Corsa Lite models have new competition… Fiat Auto SA has launched its own no-frills runabout, the Palio Go!, in three- and five-door derivates.
CARtoday.com on Tuesday quoted Fiat Auto SA’s new chief executive Giorgio Gorelli as saying the Rosslyn-based manufacturer would address the current problem of vehicle affordability in South Africa by offering a budget version of its Palio model aimed at first time buyers.
The Palio Go! Is differentiated from other models in the range by its black bumpers, door handles and side-skirts, Palio Go! badging on the rear and sides of the car, wheelcaps with the centenary logo embossed on them and the absence of the rear windscreen wiper.
Lively new interior cloth and a new dark grey dashboard have been introduced for the seats and door panels of the Palio Go!.
Rear fog lamps, adjustable seats with height-adjustable head restraints, Fiat CODE immobiliser, tinted windows, a heated rear window, two-speed windscreen wipers with intermittent function and a normal size spare wheel are standard equipment on the Go!.
The vehicle is powered by Fiat’s 1242 cm3 single overhead camshaft four-cylinder motor coupled to a five-speed C514 manual gearbox. Fiat Auto SA claim a maximum power output of 52 kW at 6 000 r/min and maximum torque of 102 N.m at 3 250 r/min.
The Palio Go! is fitted with ventilated discs in front and drums at the rear. The suspension consists of independent McPherson struts with lower wishbones anchored to a subframe up front and a torsion beam with tie rods, coil springs and a stabiliser bar at the rear.
The model also retains the safety items of its siblings – side impact beams, collapsible steering column, deformable bumpers and anti-submarining seats and a Fire Prevention System (FPS).
The three-door Palio Go! will retail for R67 900 and its five-door stablemate will move off the showroom floor for R69 900.
Fiat Auto South Africa offers owners of the Fiat Palio Go! a 12-month/unlimited mileage warranty, three years on paintwork and five years on rust perforation.
The new models are also covered by the active 24 hours-a-day, 365 days- a-year AA Fleetcare roadside assistance for 12 months. Services are required at 20 000 km intervals.
