Late 2013 Jaguar released a prototype of a vehicle it wants to bring to market, the C-X17 – in essence an SUV. But, says the automaker, the 2016 vehicle will not be labelled as an SUV and that a new name is in the works.
Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth was adamant in his characterising of the C-X17 and insisted that “a Jaguar SUV is not possible”, seeing that the honours of producing SUVs and 4×4 belongs to Land Rover.
According to Speth, the C-X17 will be “far more road-orientated” and will receive a different moniker.
Internally the C-X17 is being referred to as a “sports crossover”, but Jaguar admits that they are working on a more attractive name ahead of the vehicle’s introduction in 2016.
Technical detail is sparse, but it is known that the C-X17 will utilise the same platform as the upcoming Jaguar XE sedan. It is, thus, save to assume that it will borrow the same engine line-up, too.
The official unveiling of the Jaguar C-X17 could occur in the second half of 2015.
