It was this time last year when Jaguar revealed its XF Sportbrake ahead of its Geneva show debut. Now, once again ahead of its official reveal in Geneva, the manufacturer has unveiled its first high-performance estate car – the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake.
Looking to take on the likes of the Audi RS6 Avant and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate, this wagon comes fitted with the same powerplant that can be found in the saloon – a supercharged 5,0-litre V8 unit with 405 kW and 680 N.m of torque. Sending drive to the wheels is an eight-speed automatic transmission that helps propel this car from zero to 100 km/h in 4,8 seconds. It has an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h. Fuel consumption is a claimed 12,7 litres/100 km, while CO2 emissions stands at 297 g/km.
The XFR-S has a specifically tuned chassis, an active electronic differential and dynamic stability control for enhanced handling characteristics and aerodynamic changes such as a rear spoiler in order to reduce lift.
In terms of design, the XFR-S Sportbrake looks a lot like the standard car with a flowing rear window graphic, rising waist and estate roofline. Unique to this model is a deeper front bumper with larger lower central and side air intakes, the deeper side mouldings behind the rear wheels, an extended rear bumper that incorporates a central, carbon fibre diffuser and 20-inch lightweight Varuna forged alloy wheels.
Jaguar currently has no plans to bring the standard or performance Sportbrake to SA.
