Jaguar has given its apex model a shot of steroids before heading to the big apple; the XJR looks set to (literally) make tracks in the grand saloon segment.
Under the bonnet of the Jaguar XJR sits the self-same supercharged 5,0-litre AJ-V8 engine currently found in the XKR-S and soon to make its way into the XFR-S. An ECU remap, performance active exhaust system and other modifications see the outputs climb from 375 kW and 625 N.m to 405 kW and 680 N.m of torque when compared with the previously most powerful model in the XJ line-up; the XJ Supersport.
Jaguar has not yet divulged any details regarding this model’s performance credentials, but it’s fair to assume that the 0-100 km/h run could be despatched in around 5,0 seconds. Should this model follow a similar tack to the XKR-S, we could see the electronically limited top speed climb from 250 to around 280-plus km/h.
To make the most of this additional firepower, Jaguar has also uprated the steering, brakes and retuned the suspension but, again, has yet to fully explain just what these “bespoke chassis and aerodynamic developments” entail.
Among the unique cosmetic features applied to the Jaguar XJR are five-spoke alloy wheels in an anthracite finish wrapped with low-profile rubber, a front apron with chromed twin nacelles and black mesh adorning the grille and front air dam.
More details regarding the Jaguar XJR will emerge during the New York Motor Show, which kicks off on March 28th.
