It’s nearly time for my long-term Dodge Journey 2,7 R/T to find another owner, so we are busy wrapping up the test. A recent trip around the coast saw the fuel consumption drop from the usual 13,0 litres/100 km to under 10 litres/100 km but I should add that I was in relaxed cruise mode, consistently travelling at no more than 80 km/h. This shows what can be achieved if one takes to the country roads and avoids rushing. On the instrument panel is a small “eco” light that comes on when your right foot is light, disappearing when the vacuum drops as you accelerate.
There is now less than 1 000 km still to go and I might have to get in quick with the purchase of some gum poles for a shade awning as the roof racks are a feature that not many cars have and are invaluable for carrying items longer than 2,5 metres. In fact, it’s amazing that items up to 2,5 metres can be carried inside the vehicle, thanks to some clever designer ensuring that the backrest of the front passenger seat folds flat just like the rear seats.
The children from Cardinal Halyard.org safe house that I often transport are going to miss the spacious seating and all the storage areas. They will also miss the overhead push button map reading lamps that are immediately switched on before they buckle up.
Finally, we would really like to have some feedback from Journey owners, so please e-mail us at [email protected]
