Indications are that Maserati’s Kubang SUV, first seen at last year’s Detroit show and meant to go on sale in this year, will not be produced any longer.
It was expected that the SUV would be available late in 2004, but the Italian manufacturer is apparently concerned that costs and production volumes may make it unfeasible.
A Maserati executive said the "numbers are too big" to produce and "it’s too soon to be building an SUV. When we have our feet firmly on the ground, we will look again at the SUV, but it won’t be the Kubang."
Instead, the marqué will focus on reaching its goal of selling 10 000 units per year by focusing on the new Spider and Coupé. Ferrari and Maserati boss Luca di Montezemelo is expected to make the official announcement soon.
