The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has warned the public to beware of con men posing as department officials and knocking on doors asking for personal information for a survey.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has warned the public to beware of con men posing as department officials and going door-to-door asking for personal information for a survey.

“We want to assure members of the public that these people are definitely not employees of the KZN Transport Department and they should therefore not fall victim to their tricks,” said the head of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa.

“This situation was first reported a few weeks ago in the KwaDukuza area and this week there were incidents in the Amanzimtoti area.

“We want to emphasise that the department does not have such an initiative taking place. If it was, we would have ensured that it was properly advertised,” he said.

Mbanjwa said KZN Transport Department staff were recognisable in golden yellow vehicles with departmental decals on both front doors as well as KZN registration plates bearing red letters on a white background. All staff also carried an identification tag with the departmental logo, ID number as well as a colour photo of the staff member.

He said that should any member of the public be approached they should contact the police.
