In a recent interview Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann said that he feels a successor for the LM002 wouldn’t be financially viable, but that the company was still considering whether or not to go ahead with production of the foor-door Estoque.
“We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door,” Winkelmann said. “And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car. A third model would fit Lamborghini very well though. A four- door car would be a very feasible approach.”
It would appear that the green light for the production of the Lamborghini Estoque, first unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, hinges on the success of its potential rivals, the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, and, to some extent, the Maserati Quattroporte.
Of course, the Panamera currently occupies the same VW family into which the Estoque could potentially fall, so it would be interesting to see how the Lamborghini is marketed so as not to dent the Panamera's huge sales success, particularly in the US.
We hope they build it just because it looks so good.
