The Lexus IS 350 will make its debut on African soil at the upcoming Johannesburg International Motor Show. With a larger, more powerful V6 engine nestled under the bonnet, the IS 350 looks set to take the fight to such established rivals as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The IS 350 will be the most powerful model in the local Lexus line-up, joining the IS 250 saloon and convertible models after its appearance at JIMS. This model’s 3,5-litre V6 engine is mated with a six-speed automatic tranmission with paddle shifters and develops 233 kW which, according to Lexus, should translate into a 0-100 km/h time of around 5,6 seconds.
Stylistically, the IS 350 will share much of its sheetmetal with its lesser-powered siblings, but will throw in such features as daytime running LEDS, a slightly sportier body kit and chromed exhaust tips.
Another aspect this model shares with others in the range is a pretty comprehensive specification line-up, which includes sat-nav with voice command and Bluetooth connectivity, park distance control with rearview camera, keyless entry and go, as well as a Lexus Premium sound system.
Similarly, the IS 350’s complement of safety features is also generous and includes eight airbags (including driver and passenger knee ‘bags) and the company’s Vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management System (VDIM), which integrates the vehicle’s electric power steering, ABS, EBD and stability control modules to ensure safer handling.
Lexus will confirm the pricing and specifications of SA-bound IS 350 models at the car’s JIMS unveiling.
