The National Transport Department has appealed to drivers to support its Daytime Running Lights Campaign throughout December to create more visibility and to reduce road accidents this festive season.
The National Transport Department has appealed to drivers to support its Daytime Running Lights Campaign throughout December to create more visibility and to reduce road accidents this festive season.
The campaign aims to reduce the road death toll by making vehicles more visible, especially to pedestrians. Drivers of vehicles travelling in opposite directions can also see each other from a distance.
“We are calling on all road users to support this campaign and to drive with their headlights on at all times during December,” said Wendy Watson, the general manager of Land Transport Regulation. “Research in Europe indicates that there is a significant decrease in crashes when motorists drive with their lights on during the day.”
This campaign will coincide with an appeal to drivers to reduce their speeds over the festive period too.
“Please show your support: put your headlights on and lift your foot – and let’s all Arrive Alive,” Watson said
In addition to the Day Time Running Lights Campaign, traffic officers will keep their blue rotating lights on continuously from dawn to dusk on designated days when high volumes of traffic are expected.
