Sébastien Loeb has secured his future in the WRC by signing a new contract that will see him stay at Citroën until the end of 2005.
CARtoday.com reported recently that the popular young Frenchman could be transferred to Citroën’s PSA stablemate Peugeot as a result of the controversial driver nomination rules that will come into effect in the sport next season.
By retaining the Monte Carlo Rally winner’s services, Citroën may need to discard either Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz, both whom have finished in the top three in this year’s series.
“There were many reasons to stay with Citroën. The car is very good, the atmosphere is nice so it made sense,” Loeb said. “I always wanted to stay with Citroën, but I did also have some interesting contact with other teams, like Subaru”.
And does Sébastien aspire to win the world championship title before his new, two-year contract has run its course? “You can never predict the possibility of winning titles,” the Frenchman said. “All I can hope for is to be fighting at the sharp end of it next year and the year after that.”
