Mahindra has added a rear-wheel drive, seven-seater derivative with a 2,2-litre turbocharged petrol engine to its Scorpio SUV model range. It comes in at R20 000 less than the lowest priced diesel engine variant.
This newcomer increases the Scorpio SUV range to five models. Three with two-wheel drive and two with four-wheel drive with an option of either a five-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic transmission. This 2,2-litre turbocharged mHawk engine was developed from the CRDe turbo diesel engine of the same capacity. The mHawk produces 115 kW and 280 N.m of torque.
At R209 900, this new offering is only available in export markets. Mahindra South Africa is on track with its policy of ongoing improvement to its vehicles, in line with customer feedback. At the launch of the latest Scorpio range automotive sector president of Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr Pawan Goenka, said, “The Scorpio’s strong value proposition lies in its versatility and its ability to morph and mould itself according to the changing template of customer needs.” Adding that he saw the Scorpio, with its go-anywhere capability, as a key to the success of Mahindra in South Africa.
Features on the Scorpio SUV includes air conditioning, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, electric windows, map and cup holders as well as a host of utility spaces. Standard saftey features include dual airbags and ABS.
The Mahindra Scorpio range has a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 60 000 km service plan, with 10 000 km oil change and service intervals
