Bert Wessels, executive chairman of Toyota South Africa, on Monday announced a new senior management structure for Toyota SA Motors, the manufacturer’s operating company.
“This new structure comes about as a result of the changes occurring within Toyota SA as the company is integrated into the global Toyota Motor Corporation organisation,” Wessels said.
Under the new structure, which becomes effective on January 1, Dr Johan van Zyl, the current Managing Director Marketing, has been appointed to the position of chief operating officer of Toyota SA Motors. New appointments to the board of directors of the operating company are Marius Burger, Terry O’ Donoghue, Gerry Motley and Garry Steinmetz, the company said.
As Chief Operating Officer, Van Zyl will oversee all activities of the six divisions that cover all aspects of the operating company.
These six respective divisional heads are: Henry Pretorius, senior director of product development & procurement, Bill Jansens, senior director of assembly and manufacturing activities, Burger, director of marketing and sales, O’ Donoghue, director of production control, Motley, director of vehicle assembly and Steinmetz, director of component manufacturing.
“One of the biggest challenges facing Toyota in South Africa is the emergence of the company as an exporter of components and fully built up vehicles in significant numbers as part of the Toyota Motor Corporation global supply chain,” Wessels added.
