Maserati will unveil its new GranCabrio Sport (its name outside of North America) at the Geneva Show on 1 March. The new car is more powerful than the GranTurismo and makes use of a 4,7-litre V8 and revised suspension.
Even with a 6 per cent reduction in fuel economy, the powerplant pushes out 331 kW and 510 N.m of torque. It is mated with a six-speed ZF-developed automatic transmission that features the same MC Auto Shift software as the Quattroporte Sport GT S. The GranCabrio is good for a top speed of 285 km/h.
The GranCabrio features cosmetic upgrades over its lesser stablemates such as a black grille with red-painted trident, front corner splitters, side skirts and black headlamps. A revised Rosso Trionfale paint colour is also featured, which is apparently inspired by the company’s 1950 racing cars.
The GranCabrio Sport will be in dealers in North America in August and should make its local appearance soon thereafter.
CAR will be reporting live from the 2011 Geneva Show. Look out for news stories, pictures and videos on CARmag.co.za, visit our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter.
