Former Sauber driver Felipe Massa is reportedly close to securing his seat next to Justin Wilson at Minardi, while Jos Verstappen has hinted that he may be moving to Jordan.
said that reports in the Australian press indicated that Massa was likely to get a full-time drive with Minardi. There are only two seats left for the season and it looks unlikely that Massa will get the Jordan spot as he does not have enough financial backing.
Verstappen, who is also in the running for the Minardi seat, indicated on his website this week that he may sign for another team, and with only the Jordan left reports have surfaced that an offer has been made.
“We are in contact with all teams where we think they can offer me a chance,” the Dutchman said on his website.
“The public might think that we are only talking with Minardi, but that is not true. We are speaking with other teams as well. That is all I can say, it is very sensitive. We know what we are doing and I will tell you again, although nothing is sure in Formula One, it looks good and I am very positive that I will return.”
There are several other drivers in line for the Jordan position, including Eddie Irvine.
Meanwhile, Wilson, who signed with Minardi last month, has been preparing for the season on his Playstation. Wilson said he was concerned about the tracks he has never driven on, in particular the first venues of the season in Australia and Malaysia and hopes the game tracks will help him.
“Any track information I can take on board will be very valuable,” he told .
“The games are very realistic and they are giving me a real feel for the corners and a rough idea of what to expect. It will be a real help when I get to the circuit and drive round in an F1 car. Obviously, it’s not the same as driving the car around a circuit but I believe it will help.”
