Mazda will be showing off its all-new BT-50 pick-up at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show.
Due to go on sale in South Africa next year, the new BT-50 reportedly offers a great deal more passenger and load space than its predecessor – the overall load space has grown by 266 dm3 to 1 453 dm3 and the extended-cab design now incorporates clamshell rear doors that open into a more spacious passenger compartment. In addition, the new BT-50 also boasts an impressive towing capacity of 3 350 kg.
The BT-50 will be powered by a choice of two all-new diesel engines, possibly similar to those being developed for the upcoming Ford Ranger. The likely candidates are a 2,2-litre unit with outputs in the region of 110 kW and 375 N.m, and a 3,2-litre unit developing 147 kW and 470 N.m of torqe.
“We are very excited to be unveiling the new BT-50 for the first time at the Johannesburg International Motor Show,” says Doreen Mashinini, Mazda Marketing Manager. “The dynamic new design combined with increased interior space, longer wheelbase and greater power ensures all the comfort of a passenger car, alongside the versatility of a pickup.”
