From the outside, newer versions of MX-5 soft- and hard top versions are distinguished by new fog lamps and alloy wheels. Inside, formerly black-coloured scuff plate, centre panel, gear lever base panel, audio panel, meter ring, door inner handle, parking brake release button and side louvre bezel are finished in silver trim.
Furthermore, the leather-bound steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake lever have been redesigned and the leather seats adorned with zooty piping. The aero board now has two speakers.
Chrome-plated surrounds have been added to the now white-with-red-illumination speedometer and tachometer dials.
Standard specification still comprises power steering, air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, central locking, two-speaker, two-tweeter radio/CD sound system, central locking, power door locks with keyless entry and remote releases for the fuel flap and boot lid.
The MX-5 is powered by 1,8-litre four-cylinder 16-valve engine equipped with a sequential valve timing (S-VT) system. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the MX-5, fitted with a limited slip differential, produces 107 kW at 7 000 r/min and 168 N.m of torque at 5 000 r/min.
The MX-5’s braking system includes 270mm ventilated discs in the front and 276mm solid disc brakes at the rear. An anti-lock braking system (ABS), combined with EBD, is standard.
Other safety features inside the vehicle are three point seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiting mechanisms and a full-size supplement restraint system (SRS) airbag for both the driver and passenger, with a side cut-off system for the passenger.
