The Mazda MX-5 is one of the best selling sportscars of all time. The current model is due for replacement within the next two years. Therefore, a facelift and the possibility of a few limited-edition models are to be expected. Pictured here are leaked images of the facelifted MX-5 (Miata inthe U.S) and the GT Concept that appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The facelifted MX-5 features a revised grilled and foglamps giving it less of a smiley face than before. For pedestrian safety, this MX-5 will reportedly feature a bonnet that pops up in the event of a pedestrian collision. Interior changes such as a new-look facia and black trim surrounds for the dials and certain facia are expected.
As for the Mazda MX-5 GT, Car and Driver recently reported that the Japanese company is considering offering a more powerful version of its drop-top sports coupe. Tuned by British firm Jota Sport, the MX-5 GT sports a 125 kW version of the naturally aspirated 2,0 engine, an adjustable suspension set-up, Recaro race seats and a sport-oriented exhaust system.
Car and Driver also produced a rendering of what the all-new 2014 MX-5 might look like. The basic elements of the new model include a new design direction, rear-wheel drive, lightweight construction and the possibility of a smaller engine producing similar outputs to those of the current model thanks to turbocharging.
