In line with its theme of “Environmental Technology, Pushing the Boundaries of the Emotion of Motion” at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda hopes the new Takeri concept (said to preview the next Mazda6) will bring a new level of allure to the brand’s offering, and keep within environmental and safety constraints.
Mazda believes that the new KODO design ethos, (KODO translates to “the soul of motion”), will change the way showgoers will view mid-size saloons. Apart from the swooshy body panels, KODO also incorporates lightweight matrials to keep the construction of the Takeri as mass-efficient as possible, as well as new aerododynamic technologies.
The Takeri concept makes use of Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-D diesel powerplant and new regenerative braking system to achieve outstanding fuel consumption figures and emissions. The regenerative system stores kinetic energy from braking, stores it in capacitors and uses it to power the vehicle’s electronics.
This technology is the second step in Mazda’s Building Block Strategy, which included a first step for a stop/start system called i-Stop, and also incorporates electric drive technologies like Hybrids.
CARmag.co.za will bring you more ground-breaking vehicles and concepts from the Tokyo Motor Show, December 3 – 11.
