Mazda has released images and initial details of its Mazda6 Wagon ahead of the car’s official Paris Motor Show debut.
The five-door station wagon shares many of the saloon’s sweeping Kodo design cues and will be available with a choice of four powerplants, all of which feature the firm’s SkyActiv suite of efficiency-boosting technologies including Eloop brake energy regeneration.
On the petrol engine front the Mazda6 wagon’s offerings will mirror those of the saloon, namely a 2,0-litre SkyActiv G (petrol) that delivers 110 kW/210 N.m and a 2,5-litre unit that makes 141 kW/256 N.m. A 2,2-litre SkyActive-D diesel engine will also be offered in two states of tune.
Although Mazda hasn’t divulged any details regarding the transmission line-up, it’s fair to assume that the petrol engines will be coupled with the same setups as found in the saloon; a choice of six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic and a six-speed SkyActiv MT manual ‘box for the 2,0-litre while the 2,5-litre will be auto-only.
The Mazda6 Saloon will reach South Africa during the first half of 2013, but local representatives were not available to comment on the potential availability of the Wagon for our market at the time of this story breaking. However, given our market’s preference to compact SUVs over mid-sized station wagons, it’s likely that Mazda will leave the CX-5 to cater for that particular demographic.
