Leading automotive retailing group McCarthy Motor Holdings has invested R28 million in the establishment of a multi-franchise used vehicle network called McCarthy Pre-Owned.
Gert Debeer, a director of Canada-based automotive business Autofacts, this week said that larger multi-brand franchises were set to become the norm in South Africa and McCarthy’s seven Pre-Owned branches are situated in Pretoria, two in Durban, Germiston, Pinetown, Witbank and a newly-established one in Randburg.
In addition, an eighth Pre-Owned branch will open in Cape Town next month, which will push the cumulative investment to over R30 million, said Brand Pretorius, chairman of McCarthy Motor Holdings. Additional outlets are currently planned in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Pre-Owned franchises offer the following services: a comprehensive 20-point vehicle check, guaranteed title, ownership and odometer reading, a seven day exchange plan and a thirty day warranty, as well as an optional two-year extended warranty. Also included is a one-year membership to Club McCarthy and 24-hour national roadside assistance, the company said.
“We expected the new network will add at least 1 500 units to our overall sales during the next 12 months,” said Pretorius, who added that McCarthy retailed 30 400 used vehicles during the past financial year (ending June 30).
McCarthy claims a 10,7 per cent share of the national dealer used vehicle market and Call-a-Car was said to have contributed 11,8 per cent to total used retail sales during the period.
