Ahead of the first official test scheduled for Jerez next week McLaren and Lotus have unveiled their 2014 Formula 1 challengers.
The McLaren MP4-29 is the more ungainly of the two, with an awkward singular protruding nose, as called for by the rules. Interestingly the team hasn’t seemed to have signed a new title sponsor since the departure of Vodafone at the end of last year.
Lotus chose a more flattering angle to show the E22, though one can still see an interesting nose arrangement on this car as well.
This year sees almost a full reset of the rules as the 2,4-litre V8 engine employed over the last decade has been replaced by a 1,6-litre, V6 turbocharged unit with a raft of energy recovery systems. You can see more info on the 2014 engine here.
