Hot on the heels of the A45 and the CLA45 is the third member of the 45 AMG family, the GLA45. As its name indicates the newcomer is based upon the Mercedes small crossover platform, which already offers a number of engine/drivetrain options. The AMG model will head up the GLA range.
GLA45 uses the same 2,0-litre turbocharged engine as the A45 and produces the same impressive level of power and torque; these figures peaking at 265 kW and 450 N.m, respectively. It rides on the same platform as the other small cars in the Mercedes family and shares the same all-wheel drive layout as the A45. Torque is delivered to all corners via an automated twin-clutch transmission.
Performance is notable for a car of this ilk, the benchmark zero-to-100 km/h sprint coming up in 4,8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
As with many other freshly introduced AMG models the GLA will also be available in Edition 1 specification. This is mostly a visual differentiation: a larger alloy wheel finished in matte black with red detailing, a similar red highlight on the front air intake, a very noticeable motif on the flanks as well as an aerofoil mounted atop the hatch; the latter creates 40 kg of downforce at high speeds.
