Following the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupé SUV at this year’s Beijing Motor Show, the first test mules have now been spotted testing at the Nürburgring in Germany.
Rumours suggest that this BMW X6 rival will be called the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé, or maybe even the MLC.
Based on the M-Class SUV, the engine range is likely to be similar. This means we could see the 3,0-litre, V6 turbodiesel (190 kW/620 N.m), 3,0-litre V6, turbopetrol (245 kW/480 N.m) and the 4,7-litre V8, turbopetrol (300 kW/600 N.m).
However, an AMG version will feature the 5,5-lite, V8 turbopetrol with at least 386 kW/700 N.m. Listen closely and you can hear the automatic throttle blipping and burbling exhaust note of the one test unit, clearly the AMG version.
Even though these test mules are dressed in the usual black and white swirly camouflage wrapping, it seems as though the production versions will be close to that of the original concept car.
Expect the official production version to be unveiled around the first half of 2015, followed by local introduction before the end of 2015.
