Hot on the heels of the launch of its C-Class saloon, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the coupé version of this car to the South African public.
On the styling front, the new C-Class coupé boasts a short front overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen, long roof and narrow C-pillar for a sleek silhouette. There is a choice of four engines – one diesel and three petrol – on offer, and the details of each is as follows:
The C250 CDI BlueEfficieny delivers 150 kW at 4 200 r/min and 500 N.m of torque at 1 600 r/min. Merc claims a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 7,0 seconds for the manual version. Fuel consumption is 5,3 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions is 136 g/km. The 115 kW entry-level petrol C180 BlueEfficiency is claimed to consume 6,8 litres/100 km of fuel, while emitting 157 g/km of CO2. The other two petrol models – the C250 BlueEfficiency and the C350 BlueEfficiency – have power outputs of 150 and 225 kW respectively. Both these models have a fuel consumption figure of 7,0 litres/100 km, while CO2 figures stand at 163 g/km for the smaller C250 and 164 for the V6-equipped C350.
For driving comfort, Mercedes-Benz has equipped this coupe with its agility control suspension – an adaptive damping system that reads the road conditions and calibrates the damping to best suit the driving scenario – and a direct ratio steering system is offered to give the car a more precise helm. There are various boxes that potential owners could tick in order to create their optimal comfort levels.
New technology in this model includes Internet access from the telematics system, and a Bluetooth system that allows for text messages to be read on the display screen. To make each C-Class coupe as unique as possible, Mercedes-Benz offers eleven different paint finishes, two upholstery choices, and five options for the trim parts.
Standard safety features across the range include nine airbags, belt tensioners, belt-force limiters and an array of driver aids.
