With the process of launching ten all-new models between 2012 and 2020 already underway, Mercedes-Benz added to that number by admitting to plans of adding a Shooting Brake model to its CLA range.
The CLA Shooting Brake will be Mercedes’ fifth front-wheel drive compact model, following the likes of the A-Class hatchback, CLA sedan, GLA crossover and B-Class MPV. Design-wise the CLA Shooting Brake will draw on the CLS Shooting Brake and the CLA sedan’s design cues.
Because the CLA Shooting Brake will share its mechanical platform with the CLA sedan, it will also boast the same turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that does duty in the CLA. All engines will be mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Drive will be sent to the front- or all four wheels, the latter through the company’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
Mercedes-Benz’s award-winning 265 kW 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine will feature in a CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake model.
