Rumours of this new model have been doing the rounds for some time now, but as yet Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed anything. A smaller sibling of the SLS, the SLC, as it has been dubbed by many, is touted as a Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type competitor.
Earlier spy shots showed heavily revised SLS models, but this latest set of pics shows a far different shape, hinting very closely at the eventual silhouette and even the tail-lamp design. Judging from these images it seems unlikely that the SLC will have the dramatic gullwing doors of its SLS sibling.
SLC reputedly will feature Mercedes’s upcoming, compact 4,0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 that will also be used in the upcoming C-Class. The new unit reportedly develops in excess of the 336 kW of the current 6,2-litre V8. Power will be delivered to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch transaxle.
Mercedes seems to be on the product offensive at the moment and with the W205 series C-Class due for release early next year, the SLC (though the name has yet to be confirmed) will either debut at the end of 2014 or early in 2015.
