The new MG3 supermini will be launched internationally in a few weeks time and South Africans will be able to get a sneak peak of this vehicle at the upcoming Johannesburg Motor Show. A local launch will take place soon after.
The MG3’s exterior styling highlights include LED daytime running lights, wrap-around windscreen, blacked out A and B pillars and rakishly angled headlamps. Depending on the model (there will be four available overseas), the MG3 could come fitted with a sports styling kit and 16-inch alloy wheels. MG claims that the interior is the most spacious in its class. Overseas, the top-of-the-range MG3 features cruise control, automatic lights and windscreen wipers and reverse parking sensors.
There’s no word yet on which models and specification packages South Africans will get, but internationally all models are powered by a 1,5-litre dohc VTi-tech petrol unit that delivers 78 kW at 6 000 r/min and 137 N.m at 4 750 r/min. Mated with a five-speed manual ‘box, the MG3 has a claimed zero to 100 km time of around 10 seconds and a top speed of 175 km/h.
Standard safety kit on the MG3s available overseas include six airbags, traction control, electronic hillhold assist and ESP.
