Six-times world champion Michael Schumacher will test his Ferrari f-2003 GA against a supersonic jet fighter at an Italian military airbase on Thursday. It will be the third battle between land and air since 1931 – will the outcome be different this time?
Piloting his championship-winning Ferrari, Schumi will take on a brand new Eurofighter in two straight-line speed contests at an Italian airforce base in Grosetto, central Italy.
It’s a duel between the two titans: the Ferrari is capable of reaching a top speed of 400km/h, while the Eurofighter can reach almost 2 450 km/h. The contest has been structured to be as balanced as possible… The 500-metre course is expected to favour the Ferrari while the 1,5-kilometre course should offer the Eurofighter some advantage.
Similar contests took place in 1981 and 1931. In the 1981 battle, a Ferrari beat a fighter jet over a kilometre course and in 1931, an Alfa Romeo came off second best to a biplane.
