Despite its virtues, the Mitsubishi Outlander is one of those compact SUV/Crossovers that tends to fly beneath the radar. But with a number of mechanical, cosmetic and specification-based upgrades ushered in for 2015 Mitsubishi hopes to change that.
In terms of styling updates the most prominent change exterior changes to the Outlander for 2015 include of a new upper grille design, chromed foglamp surrounds and silver finishes to the skidplates and roof rails that contrasts with new black cladding for the wheel arches.
Inside, the bulging Rockford-Fosgate woofer has been removed from the luggage bay to free up more load space and an under-floor storage bin that’s capable of accommodating the tonneau cover when the seven seats are in place has been added.
Although the 2015 Outlander perseveres with the naturally aspirated 2,4-litre petrol powerplant, the virtual ratios on the CVT ‘box have been geared more towards fuel economy, dropping consumption from the high 9,0-litre to 8,2 litres/100 km.
Among the 2,4 GLS’s standard features are a radio/CD/MP3/Bluetooth-voice audio system with a touchscreen interface that also integrates a reverse camera and separate entertainment screen for rear passengers, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats (diver’s electrically adjustable), cruise control, auto lights and wipers and an electric glass roof.
The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander retails for R439 900, which includes a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and 5-year/90 000 km service plan.
