Jenson Button’s manager, Dave Robertson, believes Juan Pablo Montoya is over-rated and wishes fans would stop praising the Colombian.
"Just because he’s at the front, in a car which should be up there with the best, everyone is saying ‘Wow!’ ” he said.
Robertson said Button had achieved much more than Montoya in his debut year.
"People forget that Jenson overtook 10 people last year during the American Grand Prix in Indianapolis and he was as quick as Schumacher in the wet,” he said.
Robertson also said he could not understand why so many fans think Montoya is special. “All this hysteria about Montoya is unbelievable. Let’s face it, he’s bent the bloody car enough times so I don’t understand all this rubbish that’s flying around about him.
"The guy keeps going off and people try to justify that by saying he is inexperienced. That’s rubbish. The guy is an experienced racer. He had considerable experience testing a Formula 1 car before he went to Indy in the States where, credit to the guy, he won the championship.
"He has also driven Formula 3000 so he’s a lot more experienced than Jenson, yet he keeps doing stupid things."
