More details of new Audi Q1 emerge

More details have emerged around the Audi Q1, Ingolstadt’s baby crossover due out in 2016.

It was originally speculated that the subcompact SUV crossover would be based on the VW group’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, which currently forms the foundations of the Audi A3 and Golf 7, but it now appears it’s either the current A1’s PQ25 platform or a next-generation design that will underpin it.

VW will also launch their own version of the car to be loosely based on the 2012 Taigun concept.

Under the hood will be powertrains from the A1 – a range of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines – and  given the recent launch of the S1, there could also be a sports-focused SQ1 variant.
