A 23-year-old set a new record for speeding in the Western Cape this weekend after being caught doing 198 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
The reported that the 23-year-old man was arrested for speeding in Vanguard Drive. Arrive Alive manager Tyrone Ludick said the man, driving a BMW, had been racing another motorist. He had been caught, but the trapping device had not picked up the speed of the other motorist.
The 23-year-old was later released on a warning. He will appear in the Goodwood magistrate’s court on Monday.
However, Western Cape MEC for Community Safety Leonard Ramatlakane is concerned that the man was released on a warning. He said his department planned to investigate why this had happened. “Vanguard Drive is a high accident zone,” he said.
