Based around the Nelspruit, Sabie, White River and Graskop areas, this weekend’s Sasol Rally will offer additional spectator attractions, a Mardi Gras and mini-airshow.

Sasol Rally 2005, the fourth round of the SA National Rally Championship, will take place from June 9 to 11 and the (old) Nelspruit airport will host a show, which will include an appearance by the four-jet Sasol Tiger aerobatic team, on Sunday, June 12.

Most of the stages are tight and twisty and wind up and down the slopes of the Mpumalanga forests, but they do include some very fast stretches. This year, the timetable for the Sasol Rally is tighter than in previous years, which should result in more spectating opportunities and very packed stages, organisers say.

The event starts in Sabie at approximately 11.30 am on Friday, with teams reaching Parc Ferme in the early evening. The Sabie Sizzler night stage stays on the route schedule as well as the Subaru Super Special and Spar White River Stage.

Administrative checks and scrutineering will take place in the Sabie Town centre from late afternoon on Thursday (June 9), where the Sasol Delight Sabie Mardi Gras will occur as per last year, and continue into Friday morning before the start. Fans will be able to meet the teams and drivers during the Mardi Gras.
