Nissan has just given its Navara line-up a mid-life shot in the arm with the introduction of a luxurious LE-spec model featuring a number of mechanical and trim-related improvements.
The 2,5-litre dCi turbodiesel engine has been tuned to free up an additional 11 per cent in both power and torque. The total power output rises to 140 kW while torque increases by 47 N.m to 450 Nm, in the 4X4 LE models. The 4×2 models receive a similar upgrade, now producing 403 N.m and 128 kW. The enhancements also usher in marked a improvement in fuel economy, with the diesel returning 8,3 litres/100 km – about 1,3 litres/100 km better than before. The 4,0-litre V6 remains unchanged with an overall output of 198 kW.
Exterior changes include a revised bonnet, grille and bumper while the interior sees the introduction of new switchgear, improved door trim, new seat materials and chrome trim accents. In terms of the switchgear changes, the Navara’s all-wheel drive command control has been simplified and steering wheel-mounted controls for the audio system and phone have also been included.
The upgraded Navara LE also benefits from improved safety and security features, including new side and curtain airbags and a lockable tailgate.
According to Nissan SA product manager Ross Garvey “With our XE and SE (base and mid-range) specification levels continuing to provide great value, the Navara LE was free to extend further than ever up the ladder of luxury and power, and that is exactly what we are doing with this refresh. We believe that there is not a more luxurious – and there’s certainly no more powerful – a 1-ton bakkie available today, placing the new Navara LE even more firmly in a prestigious class all of its own!”
