Porsche SA will soon offer the new Aerokit Cup bodykit as part of its Tequipment range for the 997-series Porsche 911. Does the Le Mans-look kit boost the Porker’s sex appeal, or will it make the purists see red?
Stuttgart-based Porsche AG announced last week that the “Aerokit Cup”, which consists of a front bumper with an integrated spoiler and a rear lid featuring a spoiler and a rigidly mounted biplane rear wing, had been made available for new 911 Carrera Coupé and the 911 Carrera S Coupés worldwide.
Besides its aesthetic appeal, the new Aerokit Cup is said to improve driving stability at high speed by “reducing uplift at the front axle and generating of downforce on the rear axle”.
The Aerokit Cup was designed in cooperation with Porsche’s Motorsport department. Despite being adorned with enlarged front spoilers and rear wings, Carreras equipped with the new bodykit reportedly have the same drag coefficient as their standard stablemates.
Steven Steyn, a spokesman for the parts and accessories department at the Porsche Centre in Randburg, told CARtoday.com on Thursday that although Tequipment catalogues for the 997-series Carrera were available in South Africa, pricing details and delivery confirmation for the Aerokit Cup were not yet available.
“It will definitely be available on the local market from the Porsche centres here and in Cape Town, however”, said Steyn, who added that the kit could be ordered as a customisation option with a new car, or from Porsche Tequipment as an aftermarket accessory.
