BMW has released full details on its new M6 convertible and coupe models, due in South Africa in the second quarter and September (of this year), respectively. The convertible arrives first.
Due to be showcased at the upcoming New York and Geneva Motor Shows, the newcomers make use of the new M5’s drivetrain, most notably the twin-turbo 4,4-litre V8 (internally designated as S63Tu and max boost pressure of 1,5 bar), the 7-speed M-Double Clutch-Transmission (M-DCT) and the Active M rear differential. The engine delivers 412 kW from 5 750 to 7 000 r/min and 680 N.m of torque from 1 500 to 5 750 r/min. BMW claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4,2 seconds for the coupe and 4,3 for the convertible. Both cars are electronically limited to a 250 km/h top speed.
Also part of the standard kit is Dynamic Damper Control (DDC), a high-performance braking system featuring 400 mm discs in front (396 mm at the rear) and 19-inch M-specific alloy wheels. Due slightly later this year is the option of M carbon-ceramic brakes, the first for a BMW M car, and which will be offered in conjunction with 20-inch M-specific alloy wheels.
