While it is no surprise that Luca di Montezemolo will continue as Fiat Auto’s Ferrari Group president and chief executive, there have been management changes at the head of Maserati and in Ferrari’s ranks.
As expected, Martin Leach will take on the role of Maserati chief executive. Leach had been embroiled in a legal battle with former employer Ford after he was cast out in August 2003.
Leach was the first choice as Fiat Auto chief executive, but was forced to turn it down when Ford refused to release him from his two-year non-compete clause. In January this year, a court ruled that Leach had been fired, nullifying the non-compete clause.
And while F1 team boss Jean Todt maintains his responsibilities within the Gestione Sportiva, he will now take on the added role of the Prancing Horse’s managing director. Amedeo Felisa will assume the responsibilities of Ferrari’s deputy managing director.
Antonello Perricone, Maserati chief executive and managing director, will leave to assume other responsibilities within the Fiat Group. The new appointments are effective from June 1.
