The new C63 AMG Estate set for launch in 2015, has been caught undergoing testing at the Nürburgring.
Two key features of the upcoming C63 AMG series are the downsized engine and a lighter body.
Concerning the engine, Merc has decided to ditch the naturally-aspirated 6,2-litre V8 for a brand new, and ‘greener’, 4,0-litre turbocharged V8. This new unit will also find its way to the AMG GT supercar.
In base trim, the power figures for the new engine should be in excess of 338 kW and exceed 375 kW when it becomes available in performance packages and Black Edition models.
Drive will be sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed Speedshift automatic gearbox which will be offered as standard. No word as yet as to whether or not the new C63 AMG range will have the option of Merc’s all-wheel drive ‘4Matic’ drivetrain.
Thanks to a new platform that makes greater use of aluminium and other measures, the C-Class range is roughly 100 kg lighter than the model it replaces. It is then not too far-fetched that similar savings will be found in the C63 AMG range, too.
The new model will be faster than its predecessor, which rocketed to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The 2015 C63 AMG range will include the sedan, Estate, Coupe and possibly a Convertible version.
