The year 2011 is an important one for bakkie buyers. Not only has Toyota released the new Hilux, but Ford’s new Ranger – that will also be locally produced – has now been launched in South Africa. According to Ford, the Ranger will be manufactured on three continents and sold to customers in 180 markets.
The new range will introduce two new Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel engines and one Duratec petrol unit. Just as important is that payload capacity has gone up, and certain 4×2 models will be able to carry up to 1 200 kg. Depending on the model, certain bakkies will also be equipped with luxuries such as Bluetooth with voice control and a rear-view camera.
