It is sometimes useful to pay attention when big automotive companies snatch up another manufacturer’s top employees. In this case, Hyundai-KIA Motor Group has employed Albert Biermann as its head of vehicle test & high performance development.
According to the Korean manufacturer, Biermann wil be responsible for for “new high performance vehicles and technologies".
Biermann comes with an extensive list of experience. Age 57, he joined BMW in 1983, and since 2008 he has been the vice president of engineering at BMW M Automobiles. It is safe to say this was a significant role. Biermann will be based in South Korea at the company’s R&D Centre in Namyang where he will lead the development of new high performance models.
This is also exciting news for us as consumers, as Hyundai and Kia is clearly looking into developing sportier cars in the near future.
Woong Chul Yang, head of Hyundai-KIA R&D Centre, said the following on Biermann's appointment: "This is a senior engineering appointment and an important part of our effort to further optimize the dynamics of our vehicles, providing even greater rewards for keen drivers. Mr Biermann has unrivalled credentials in this field and his expertise and experience will help us bring forward the development of new cars that are great to drive, as well as speed the transfer of innovative technologies and insights between our road-car and motorsport engineering teams".
Cars (both new and classic) and motorcycles excite Wilhelm no end. He's usually found searching for a special car to drive or drooling over exotics in the classifieds and on auction websites. He's also currently restoring a motorcycle, with (thankfully) plenty of help from fellow enthusiasts!
