Aston Martin has released this short teaser video of what will be its most extreme car to date. Called the Vulcan, this will be a track-only hypercar, set to be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.
The last hypercar to be manufactured by Aston Martin, was the One-77. However, the Vulcan is rumoured to be on another level, as it is described by Aston Martin as ‘the most extreme Aston Martin in our 102-year history’.
It seems as if Aston Martin plans to go down the same route as the Ferrari FXX K and the McLaren P1 GTR. This means that buyers will receive the absolute best treatment from the company as they will be part of a special programme, developed for customers of the Vulcan.
It is unclear which drivetrain the Vulcan will use. From the sound of the car in the video, we can definitely confirm that it will have a race car transmission. The engine also sounds naturally aspirated, meaning there could be a similar engine to the One-77’s 7,3-litre V12 under the bonnet. This will mean that the engine will be tuned to deliver more than the One-77’s 560 kW. However, another website has pointed out that there is a blowing sound at the end of video, similar to the sound a turbo makes on the overrun.
Being a track car, the focus will be more on track times and cornering ability than straight-line speed. This means that the top speed is unlikely to be close to the One-77’s 354 km/h.
Expect only a limited number of Vulcans to be produced, with hopefully one of them making their way to South Africa.
