Jörg Bartels, Sales boss for BMW M, made it clear that no model in BMW’s model range is exempt from receiving an M-treatment.
“I will say again what the boss of BMW M has stated in the past – all BMWs are eligible for an M model,” Bartels was quoted as saying. “We will see how Audi and Mercedes go with that.”
The next-generation X1 will be based on the front-wheel drive modular architecture of the 2-Series Active Tourer and will feature front- and all-wheel drive versions.
BMW’s all-new X1 will launch in the first half of 2015 and the model range is expected to include a performance model from BMW’s M division. This will be similar to what BMW has done with the X5 M and X6 M.
Such an M model would pit the BMW X1 M against the likes of Audi’s Q3 RS and Merc’s GLA 45 AMG.
