The updated version of the premium French hatchback that is the Citroen DS5 has been officially unveiled ahead of its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. More than just external revisions, the DS5 also boasts improved specification levels, new safety features and new powertrains.
Design-wise, the DS5 gets a more sculpted front end, with the DS logo mounted in the middle of a honeycomb grille that is flanked by LED headlamps that feature sequential turn signals. At the rear are redesigned tail-lights and more prominent dual chrome exhaust tailpipes.
The latest line of the PSA Group’s engines will find their way under the DS5’s sculpted bonnet, such as a new turbocharged 1,6-litre THP that produces 121 kW and 240 N.m of torque that gets sent to the front wheels via a new six-speed automatic transmission. There’ll also be an oil-burner of the same size that produces 88 kW and 300 N.m, which will use the same automatic or manual gearbox.
In the cabin, the DS5’s benefited from the inclusion of a new touchscreen infotainment system for a cleaner facia (12 buttons were removed from the interface thanks to the new unit). The new system features a Mirror Screen function that relays smartphone content onto the touchscreen and boasts audio by Japanese electronics specialists Denon. Other features include dual-zone air-con, front memory seats with massage function and heated exterior mirrors, as well as keyless entry and start.
Blind Spot Monitoring has been added to a long list of standard safety specification that also features automatic high-beam function for the headlamps, lane departure warning, head-up display, intelligent traction control and reverse camera.
