Geely’s EC7 is due to arrive here in early 2013 in a bid to make a budget-friendly impact in the D-segment saloon sphere.
The EC7, sometimes branded the Emgrand EC7 as part of Geely’s luxury division (think what Lexus is to Toyota), has climbed to the top spot in its segment on the Chinese market where it saw off rivals present on the South African market.
It will initially arrive in five-door saloon guise before being joined by a four-door hatchback during the third quarter of 2013. Power is likely to come from a naturally aspirated 1,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit.
The EC7 is likely to undergo homologation testing at Geely’s new Research & Development facility in Midrand, Gauteng. It will be interesting to see how the car is received locally, especially given that Geely produces this particular model with export markets in mind.
