Honda previously unveiled a Civic Type R concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March but the Japanese manufacturer has decided to reveal yet another concept ahead of the Paris Motor Show next week.
With Honda aiming to achieve the title of fastest front-wheel-drive car around the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the Civic Type R, Honda say that the model is currently undergoing an extensive development programme with a team briefed to achieve that goal. This time ’round through, the concept looks even wilder than before, with bright blue bodywork, and what appears to be carbon-fibre side skirts. The massive rear wing also looks like it’s woven from the exotic material.
Honda has stuck with its original strategy, a high-revving 4-cylinder engine and the result is an all-new turbocharged 2,0-litre i-VTEC petrol engine said to produce more than 206 kW with a 7 000 r/min redline.
Thanks to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Type R will be able to sprint to 100 km/h from rest in under six seconds.
A new feature on the Type R will be the +R button on the multifunction steering wheel which adjusts engine torque-mapping, steering sensitivity and suspension dampers for maximum performance. The system will also include a Steer Axis programme in order to minimise torque steer and allow the driver to fully exploit the Type R’s potential.
The Honda Civic Type R is set to go on sale next year.
