Hyundai has launched a new i10-based sedan at the Auto Expo in Delhi. The fact that the Korean manufacturer picked this Indian motor show to unveil this model doesn’t come as a surprise, as the i10 scored the Indian Car of the Year award for 2014.
Details are sketchy, but the range is likely to feature a 1,1-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine and a 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. What has been confirmed is the option of a manual and automatic transmission.
Luxury features include rear air-conditioning vents, rear parking sensors with a camera, USB connectivity, an audio system with a 1 GB internal memory and a cooled glove compartment. The latter two features, should they become available, will be firsts in this market segment. Two airbags and ABS will also be fitted.
A spokesperson for Hyundai Automotive South Africa confirmed that it is not considering bringing the i10 sedan, which could have been a direct rival for Honda’s Brio Amaze, to our local market. However, the i10 Grand will be launched in May.
