The first image of Jaguar’s F-Type compact roadster have been leaked onto the ‘web ahead of the car’s official launch at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
The image was apparently snaffled from a pre-Paris launch event by spy photographer Chris Doan, who then candidly popped the images on his Facebook page before it went viral and showed up on motoring websites across the world, including Worldcarfans where this particular item was found.
Drawing a great deal of inspiration from the C-X16 concept that Jaguar showed off at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show; in fact the front end is pretty much a facsimile. While there’s no indication of the rear styling, it’s fair to assume that if the front is anything to go by, we can expect the C-X16’s strip taillamps to adorn the back.
Although the leak didn’t include any technical details, it’s widely believed that two engines will be offered; the company’s supercharged 5,0-litre V8 with 373 kW/625 N.m and a supercharged 3,0-litre V6. This unit reportedly shares some of its DNA with Jaguar’s existing normally aspirated 5,0-litre V8 – namely technologies such as an aluminium construction, direct fuel injection and variable-valve timing.
This unit will reportedly develop around 280 kW and 460 N.m of torque, with a slightly detuned version earmarked for both the XF and XJ.
More details will emerge closer to the F-Type’s official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show later this month.
