McLaren has finally revealed technical and performance details of its 650S. We initially thought the 650S would fill the gap between the MP4-12C and the amazing P1 in McLaren’s line-up, but now it is clear that the 650S is a more focused, slightly faster 12C.
The 3,8-litre, V8 turbocharged engine will deliver 650bhp, or 478 kW and 678 N.m. The chassis would still be the same one-piece carbon tub based on that of the MP4-12C. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is 3,0 seconds dead, 0-200 km/h is done in 8,4 seconds and 0-300 km/h in 25,4 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 333 km/h, the same as the MP4-12C. All the acceleration figures are claimed figures when the car is fitted with it’s standard Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. Compared to an MP4-12C fitted with the same tyre, the times are 3,1 seconds and 9,0 seconds.
As can be seen in the pictures, the 650S takes some of its design tweaks straight from McLaren’s P1 hypercar, especially the front section, which could also improve the aerodynamic nature and downforce of the car. We would also not be surprised if other technologies have filtered through from the more expensive P1 to the 650S.
The new interior picture show how the entire cabin – including the seats – are covered in Alcantara.
The McLaren 650S will be shown at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.
