For those who felt Merc’s compact sedan – the CLA – lacked a little in the rear space department, the Stuttgart designers have come up with a solution…. the Shooting Brake variant. Spy photographers have spotted what’s clearly the CLA45 AMG version of a new Shooting Brake body style.
With its alloy wheels, quad exhaust ports and AMG body kit (side skirts and aggressive bumpers), this model will share the compact sedan rocket ship’s superb 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol – good for 265 kW and 450 N.m of torque. That power will also be transferred to all four wheels via AMG’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This, of course, is the same set up as the A45 AMG hatchback, which begs the obvious question… what’s the difference between the Shooting Brake and the hatch? From a space point of view there can’t be much in it and no doubt the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake will be more expensive. The CLA45 AMG sedan is R75 000 more than the A45 AMG in our market (see our track test of the A45 AMG here).
Perhaps it’s just that Shooting Brake kind of people simply have to have a Shooting brake. Fortunately for them Mercedes-Benz is happy to oblige this small niche.
